Some of my favorite memories are of the wonderful white cakes that my Mom would get for our birthdays from a local baker. Less delicious, but more humorous, are the memories of my Dad in the kitchen, determined to create perfection from a box of cake mix. Not necessarily one to follow the directions, the failed result was always the same but the process was an adventure for him.
Maybe because of those memories, early on I began a love of pastry, cake, and cookies. To this day there is nothing I would rather create or eat. I must have been blessed with the ability to grasp the principles of baking and with way more patience than my Dad, All of the cookies, cakes and pastries we offer come from flavor combinations and recipes we’ve developed in our search for Cookie, Cake and Pastry Nirvana.

I really love being able to find the best combinations of flavors and ingredients and I can’t imagine there is any place more perfect than our home state of Georgia to find them. We have the most flavorful apples and the juiciest peaches, the most buttery pecans and the smoothest sweet potatoes, just to name a few of our local or regional crops. I am convinced that the freshness and quality of our ingredients are the reason we love our results.
Recently Maggie, like many folks, learned she needed to follow a gluten-free diet. Gluten is the protein in traditional wheat. A difficult thing for any baker, to the drawing board we went and ignored our combined 35 year history of traditional baking. The importance of finding new ways to create irresistible baked goods without gluten had arrived. We really wanted to craft cookies and cakes that would be gluten-free and irresistible for every member of the family, not just those that needed to eat gluten-free. We think we have done that with the products we are offering here.
We use natural flours, sugars, and the very best chocolates, butters, nuts and fruits. We grind most of our spices and use only excellent liquor and liqueurs. We do believe you can taste the quality in each ingredient. We stay away from any hydrogenated fats or fillers, including in our gluten-free creations. We always figure that before we offer a cookie, a bar, a pie or a cake, we had better be in love with it. If we don’t love it, how can we
hope that you will?
